Meghan Markle and Prince Harry unveiled two new projects that they will produce for Netflix and head into the non-fiction field. The couple closed a deal with the streaming giant last year through their Archewell Productions banner and are focusing on the lifestyle and sports categories.
Markle, best known for her role as the actress in "Suits," will executive produce and host the series from the comforts of her beautiful kitchen. The series is executive-produced by Leah Hariton, who is behind the cooking show from Selena Gomez titled "Selena + Chef.
The second project touches on one of Harry's passions: polo. The untitled series Prince Harry has in the works—currently shooting at the US Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida—will present the regal sport in all its glory, filmed from every conceivable angle. While Harry won't take on a starring role, he's expected to make occasional appearances.
Reports suggest that Markle aspires to emulate the success of lifestyle entrepreneurs like Joanna Gaines and Gwyneth Paltrow. Industry sources say the Netflix project could take after her former blog, The Tig, which had aimed to compete with the best lifestyle figures in the United States.
Their Netflix debut project, "Harry & Meghan," was a huge hit, and in the first three weeks, over 81 million households around the world had tuned into it. However, there was an apparent warning from lifestyle trends writer Rachel Richardson that Markle would have to stay real if she wanted to give bigwigs a run for their money.
Among Markle's recent deals is a partnership with Lemonada Media to produce podcasts. The Netflix deal allows the couple to produce a wide range of programs if they broaden their media footprint, from the deeply personal to the fabulously entertaining.
