Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible series has earned immense love in India, on par with local heroes. Since its debut in 1996, the franchise has captivated fans worldwide for almost 34 years and now comes to an emotional end. In the previous installment, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) dove into the depths of the ocean to retrieve a key from a sunken submarine to stop the AI entity known as “The Entity.” This film picks up two months after that mission.
The central threat remains The Entity, which could potentially take control of global nuclear weapons. Villain Gabriel also seeks the key to dominate the AI. In his final mission, Ethan must once again save the world, risking everything. The film stands out with emotional moments, especially the tribute scene featuring the U.S. President recounting Ethan’s sacrifices with flashbacks to earlier films.
Though it has fewer action-packed sequences than previous films, standout scenes include the journey to the submarine and a gripping airplane fight during the climax. Tom Cruise, despite visible signs of age, astounds with his stunts and screen presence.
However, the film has issues. Unlike the previous film which explained the AI threat clearly, this part delivers complex and repeated explanations that may confuse viewers. The motives of the villain and the AI take too long to clarify, and lengthy dialogues drag the pace.
While it’s a fitting farewell to Tom Cruise’s legacy, fans hoping for intense action and sharp storytelling might feel somewhat dissatisfied. Had the film reduced AI confusion and amplified the thrills, it could have been an explosive conclusion to an iconic series.
