Candidates are actively campaigning for the local body elections including the DMK and AIADMK, to contest the February 19 urban local government elections in Tamil Nadu. In this situation, Vijay’s Makkal Iyakam executives who have won over 100 seats in the Panchayat elections are also contesting in the civic polls. Recently, the Vijay People’s Movement executives have filed nominations and started campaigning.
N. Anand, the leader of the Vijay Makkal Iyakam, has issued a statement clarifying the news on social media that some of the Vijay Makkal Iyakam candidates are forming alliances with political parties. The statement said:
Thalapathy Vijay’s Makkal Iyakam is contesting the 2022 civic polls in Tamil Nadu on the orders of the Vijay without any coalition support. Therefore, I urge all the District Leaders, Team Leaders, Union City Leaders, Administrators, Volunteers and fans who have been fielded on behalf of the Thalapathy Vijay’s Makkal Iyakam to campaign wholeheartedly and take to the people the good deeds done by Thalapathy Vijay through Makkal Iyakam and make the candidates of our movement win.” This statement confirms that Commander Vijay’s People’s Movement is contesting in the civic polls alone without any alliance with other political parties.
