Dhanush, one of Indian cinema’s finest actors, has reached a pivotal milestone in his career. He has been signed to portray two of India’s greatest icons: the legendary composer ‘Isaignani’ Ilaiyaraaja and the ‘People’s President’ Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
The Ilaiyaraaja Biopic:
Ever since the film centered on Ilaiyaraaja’s musical journey was announced, expectations have been sky-high.
Initially, Arun Matheswaran (of Captain Miller fame) was set to direct. However, recent reports suggest he has stepped away from the project. Kollywood insiders hint that a leading director is likely to take over.
Due to Dhanush’s packed schedule, filming is expected to commence in the Summer of 2027.
In a special highlight, the maestro Ilaiyaraaja himself will be composing the music for his life story.
‘Kalam’: Dhanush as APJ Abdul Kalam:
The life of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam—tracing his journey from Rameswaram to becoming India’s premier scientist and President—will be brought to life in a film titled Kalam.
The film will be helmed by popular Bollywood director Om Raut, known for Tanhaji and Adipurush.
The movie will extensively cover Kalam’s youth, his groundbreaking achievements in space science, and his tenure as the President of India.
Production is moving at a brisk pace, with a projected release in late 2027 or early 2028.
Both Ilaiyaraaja and Abdul Kalam possess very distinct body languages and personalities. Fans are eager to see how Dhanush will use his versatile acting skills to bring these legends to life on the silver screen.
Both films are planned as Pan-India releases in multiple languages, including Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu. These two ambitious projects are undoubtedly set to become significant milestones in the history of Indian cinema.
