Celebrating Maanan’s Courage with the Bold Pandian Spirit

Actor Soori’s latest film ‘Maaman’, directed by Prasanth Pandiyaraj and co-starring Aishwarya Lekshmi, was released on May 16. The emotional comedy received a positive response from audiences in theaters.

However, a few devoted fans reportedly ate “mud rice” (a symbolic ritual) praying for the film’s success. Reacting strongly, Soori criticized the act, calling it foolish. He stated, “If a movie has a good story, it will naturally succeed. Eating mud rice won’t help. Instead, that money could have been used to buy drinking water or food for someone in need. People who do such things do not deserve to be my fans.”

This bold statement by Soori was widely appreciated, including by renowned poet and lyricist Vairamuthu, who praised him on social media. Vairamuthu said, “It takes courage to publicly criticize fans blindly worshipping actors. Grains grow from the soil, and become food. But mud cannot become food. If every star guided fans with such clarity, art and culture would progress further. If the story is good, ‘Maaman’ will succeed – not because someone ate mud.”

The incident highlights the need for rational thinking in fan culture and was a moment of maturity and leadership from Soori in guiding his supporters towards logical behavior.
