US President Donald Trump has said that India is looking at “something very strong” after the Pulwama carnage.
“There’s a terrible thing going on right now between Pakistan and India. It’s a very very bad situation and it is a dangerous situation between the two countries. We would like to see it stop. Lot of people were just killed,” Trump said. He added that the US had stopped paying Pakistan the USD 1.3 billion that were being given before he took office. “We may set up some meetings with Pakistan, which was taking strong advantage over us. We have developed a better relationship with Pakistan over the last short period of time than we had,” Trump further said.
Strategic affairs analyst Brahma Challaney says that the US may have decided to take a neutral stance over the Pulwama attack. “To what extent can India count on the US as a strategic partner? Trump says the US has developed a “much better” relationship recently with Pakistan and is “very much involved” in defusing Indo-Pak situation. This suggests the US is charting a neutral course, as in Doklam standoff with China,” he wrote.
