Actress Kalyani also known as Kaveri started her career as a child artiste and later became a heroine in Malayalam cinema and acted in many hit films. In the year 2000 she made her debut in Tamil cinema playing Thalapathy Vijay's lover in 'Kannukkul Nilavu' directed by Fazil which also had Shalini Ajith as the female lead. Her other memorable films include 'Kasi' with Vikram, 'Appu' with Prashanth and 'Samuthiram' with Sarathkumar and Murali.

Kalyani then moved to Telugu cinema and became highly successful there too and she fell in love with actor-director Surya Kiran and got married to him in 2010. For many years now there have been rumours that the couple have divorced but they never opened up about it.

Surya Kiran participated in the Telugu 'Bigg Boss 4' hosted by Nagarjuna and was eliminated in the first week itself. During his post show interviews Surya Kiran has confirmed that Kalyani left him many years ago and that he still wants her back but she has her own reasons to dislike him.

Surya Kiran has acted in over 200 South Indian language films as a child actor and later became a director and he is the brother of popular Tamil serial actress Sujitha. Kalyani who last appeared in Vijay Sethupathi's 'Karuppan' in a supporting role is currently directing a Telugu/Tamil bilingual movie
