Upasana Konidela has taken up the cause of promoting squatting during bowel movements. Indian toilets are considered healthy because they allow squatting the right way. The entrepreneur-doctor, who is Ram Charan's wife, wants to practise it during the lockdown.
"Looks so easy but so tough to sit in this position for loads of people living in the city. Can you sit in the Indian toilet position for 5 minutes? By May 3rd, I want to be able to do it!" she says.
Why Indian toilets are the best:
"Squatting Indian toilet style is one such exercise! Sitting in this position not only helps tone UR thighs, legs and glutes but also enhances UR gut health and eases bowel movements," say Dr. KJ Reddy and Dr Somasekhar Rao, writing in the health blog URlife.co.in.
They add, "Dr. Reddy recommends squatting for five-ten minutes each day (for those who don’t suffer from any previous knee or back problems). Ensure you don’t take up squatting suddenly, as it can damage the muscles and cartilages around UR knees."
