The film ‘Jananaayagan’, starring actor Vijay and directed by H. Vinoth, has been made amid huge expectations. While the movie is scheduled for a worldwide release on January 9 (Friday), the delay in issuing the censor certificate has now escalated into a legal battle.

The production house KVN Productions has filed an urgent petition before the Madras High Court, stating that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) failed to issue the censor certificate within the stipulated time.

In the petition, the producers stated:“With only a few days left for the film’s release, the censor board is causing unnecessary delay in issuing the certificate. This has resulted in severe mental stress and potential financial loss for the film’s team.”

Appearing on behalf of the CBFC, the counsel informed the court that certain scenes in the film allegedly hurt religious sentiments and that complaints had been received regarding the portrayal of armed forces. Due to these concerns, the film was referred to the Revising Committee for further review.

While hearing the case, the judge questioned,“When the censor board had already recommended a ‘UA’ certificate, on what basis and under which complaints was the film suddenly sent for revision at the last moment?”The judge also directed the CBFC to submit complete details of the complaints before the court.

After hearing arguments from all sides, the judge decided not to adjourn the matter without a clear timeline and scheduled the final verdict for the early hours of January 9—the very day the film is slated for release.

Following this announcement, a sense of tension has spread among Vijay’s fans and theatre owners, along with strong expectations that justice will prevail.
