Thalapathy Vijay’s much-anticipated final acting venture, Jana Nayagan, was slated for a Pongal release on January 9. However, due to delays in obtaining the censor certificate from the CBFC, the film’s producers, KVN Productions, have officially announced the postponement of the release.

Following the delay in certification, the makers filed an urgent petition in the Madras High Court. During the hearing on January 7, Justice P.T. Asha reserved the verdict for January 9. Unable to confirm the release amid this uncertainty, the team decided to push back the date.

In a statement, KVN Productions expressed, “With a heavy heart, we announce this. The planned January 9 release of Jana Nayagan is postponed due to reasons beyond our control. The new release date will be announced soon.”

While some critics have labeled the censor delay as politically motivated retaliation, numerous political leaders and film celebrities have rallied in support of Vijay. Among them, actor Ravi Mohan (Jayam Ravi) posted a heartfelt message on his X account.

His post reads: “My heart is broken, Vijay Anna. As a brother, and as one among the lakhs of brothers standing with you, I stand firm. Your film doesn’t need a date. The day they announce the release… that’s when Pongal truly begins.”

Directed by H. Vinoth and starring Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and others, Jana Nayagan marks Vijay’s last film before his full-time entry into politics. Despite the disappointment among fans, social media is flooded with messages of support for the star.

A new release date is expected to be announced shortly.
