Actor Suriya has teamed up with director Siruthai Siva for his next film, which is tentatively titled Suriya 42. After the grand launch, today the motion poster of the film has been unveiled. Now the latest buzz reveals that the film is based on the story of a powerful Tamil ruler.
A little birdie revealed that Suriya’s character is based on the story of Vēḷ Pari, a ruler of Vēḷir lineage, who ruled Parambu nādu and surrounding regions in ancient Tamilakam towards the end of the Sangam era. Vel Pari is often used to describe the most famous amongst them, who was the patron and friend of poet Kapilar.
Vel Pari ruled a place named Pariyur or Parapuri near Gobichettipalayam in Tamil Nadu named after Pāri. After Pāri was defeated, the place was deserted towards the end of the thirteenth century A.D. and people migrated to settle down in neighbouring areas that became the modern-day town of Gobichettipalayam. Pāri is described as the master of the hill country of Parambu nādu and held sway over 300 prosperous villages.
The Suriya-starrer will feature Disha Patani as the female lead. Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, and Anand Rah will be seen in supporting roles. Suriya 42 will be made on a large scale and is said to be released in 10 different languages. UV Creations is bankrolling the pan-Indian project and Devi Sri Prasad is the music composer.
