Lokesh Kanagaraj started his film career with the offbeat film 'Maanagaram' starring Sundeep Kishan, Sri and Regina Cassandra that received critical acclaim and also turned out to be a commercial hit as well. The film was produced by S.R. Prabhu under the banner Dream Warrior Pictures.
Impressed by Lokesh's filmmaking style the stakeholders the producers immediately got him to meet Suriya after the release of 'Maanagaram'. In late 2017 news broke out that Suriya will be starring in 'Irumbu Kai Mayavi' directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film however did not take off but a couple of years later the young director made Karthi's 'Kaithi' instead for the same banner which tasted huge commercial success and critical acclaim.
The rest they say is history as Loki as he is fondly called by his friends went on to direct Thalapathy Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi in 'Master' and is now awaiting the release of his dream project 'Vikram' starring Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahaadh Faasil. The big surprise in the project is that Suriya is playing a powerful special role and will appear at the end in a never before seen avatar.
During the promotional interactions of 'Vikram' Lokesh Kanagaraj has revealed that he has a long association with Suriya and the busy star agreed for the small role as soon as he narrated it. To the obvious question of why 'Irumbu Kai Mayavi' did not materialize, the sensational director said that at that he is the sole reason why the film did not take off.
Elucidating further, Lokesh has revealed that at that time about five years back he was hesitant to do 'Irumbu Kai Mayavi' considering the mammoth scale of production and he informed Suriya and the producer S.R. Prabhu about it. They accepted his point of view and then signed him for 'Kaithi' instead. The newage filmmaker has expressed confidence that he will be uniting with Suriya soon and this super hero flick will definately be made. Great news for the anbana fans.
