After the release of the movie ‘Retro’, director Karthik Subbaraj gave an interview to The Hollywood Reporter. The film, starring Suriya as ‘Paari’ and Pooja Hegde as ‘Rukmini’, has received a warm reception from audiences. The songs composed by Santhosh Narayanan have also been well-received in theatres.
In the interview, Karthik Subbaraj revealed details about his plans for the next project. He mentioned, “I haven’t yet decided what my next film will be. After completing ‘Jigarthanda Double X’, I had planned to direct an independent film. My idea was to screen it at film festivals first and then release it in theatres. I already have the script ready.”
He further added, “However, I ended up taking on the ‘Retro’ project after finishing ‘Double X’. My ambition is to make that independent film without any box office pressure. Unlike ‘Retro’, which required a specific budget, I can make this indie project on a smaller scale with new faces. That might be my next film.”
This insight highlights the director’s intent to return to creative storytelling free from commercial constraints.
