The latest ad of Surf Excel has created a needless controversy. In it, a girl is seen helping a Muslim boy (a kid who is her friend) to go to a Masjid to offer prayers without his white dress being coloured by the Holi revellers. The ad has been seen by some sections as a veiled attempt to glorify “Love Jihad”.
The controversy is unwarranted. The ad was made with the intention of promoting “communal harmony”. Ironically, it has been seen as promoting hatred.
There has been a call by the angry sections to boycott the FMCG products made by Hindustan Uniliver. This is as absurd as it gets. In fact, there could be a spike in the sales of the product because of the row.
