Right after S.S. Rajamouli's 'Baahubali' came and created history and inspired the revival of historicals in Indian cinema our own Sundar C was the first to attempt one in Kollywood.

The announcement of his 'Sangamitra', produced by Sree Thenandal Studios, came in 201 with the first look poster unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival that year. ,Shruti Haasan was cast in the title role while Jayam Ravi and Arya were to play the male leads. Later Shruti opted out due to creative differences and Disha Patani replaced her. but the film got delayed before the shooting could commence.

The hot news is that after five years, the project has changed hands and Lyca Productions has come forward to produce t 'Sangamitra'. The production house recently bankrolled Mani Ratnam's Magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan' which has turned out to be the highest grossing film ever in Tamil cinema history.

The official announcement of 'Sangamitra', which has music by AR Rahman, is expected to be out soon. The heroine Disha Patani is currently starring in another Magnum opus 'Suriya 42' starring Suriya and directed by Siruthai Siva which is another huge plus. Stay tuned for the official update.
