Sundar C Opens Up About ‘Gangers’: Vadivelu Inspired the Unique Title!

After a long break, Sundar C is all set to return to the big screen with his upcoming film Gangers, co-starring Vadivelu. The film is scheduled for release on April 24, and the buzz surrounding it is growing fast. Speaking at a promotional event, Sundar C revealed some interesting behind-the-scenes stories — including how the film got its quirky title.

“The title Gangers might sound unusual — in fact, the word doesn’t even exist,” Sundar C said with a smile. “But that’s exactly how it all started. During our discussions for a gangster-themed film, we couldn’t land on a fitting title. That’s when Vadivelu casually said, ‘Call it Gangers!’”

Initially puzzled, Sundar C questioned the word. “I told him, ‘That’s not even a real word,’ but he just laughed and said he made it up. The more I thought about it, the more it grew on me. Instead of picking something directly from the dictionary, we went with something fresh and unique.”

He also shared insight into the film’s plot. “Gangers is a story no one has attempted in Tamil cinema so far. Think of it like a Money Heist, but not in a big city with criminal masterminds — it’s a hilarious take on what would happen if ordinary folks like an auto driver, a servant, and a small-town guy planned a robbery,” he explained. “It’s gangster comedy set in our own backyard.”

The film features a star-studded cast including Sundar C, Vadivelu, Catherine Tresa, Vani Bhojan, Bhagavathy Perumal, Deepa, Ilavarasu, Singampuli, and John Vijay. The music is composed by Sathya, cinematography is by Krishnasamy, and editing is handled by Praveen Anthony. Gangers is jointly produced by Khushbu and A.C. Shanmugam.

With its fresh premise and a title born from spontaneity, Gangers is shaping up to be a fun-filled entertainer audiences are looking forward to.
