Yesterday saw the release of two Telugu films, Nithiin’s “Robinhood” and “Mad Square”. Both movies had solid openings and received mixed responses from audiences. However, “Mad Square,” the sequel to the blockbuster “MAD,” had a better performance at the box office, thanks to the popularity of the original film. It opened to nearly full houses on the first day.
On day one, “Mad Square” collected an impressive Rs 5 crore in the Telugu states—a strong start for a film of this scale. In the USA, the film also gained traction, earning close to a quarter million dollars (~Rs 2 crore gross). The total worldwide collection for the first day was notably high.
Directed by Kalyan Shankar and produced by Suryadevara Harika under Sithara Entertainments, “Mad Square” received average reviews. Critics pointed out that while a few jokes landed well, much of the humor felt forced. Despite this, the film has become the top choice for young viewers this weekend.
Meanwhile, Nithiin’s “Robinhood” opened decently but has received lukewarm feedback. It needs to build momentum over the festive weekend to perform well at the box office.
The Malayalam film “L2 Empuraan” had the strongest opening in Telugu regions on its first day. However, the arrival of “Robinhood” and “Mad Square” on the second day impacted its collections.
