“Simbu’s New Film Is Not ‘Vada Chennai 2’, But Set in the Same World: Vetrimaaran Clarifies”

Director Vetrimaaran has officially clarified the confusion surrounding his upcoming film with actor Simbu, produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu. While many speculated that the project was a sequel to Vada Chennai, the director has now confirmed otherwise through a video shared on his social media.

In the video, Vetrimaaran explained that this film began after delays in his previously planned project Vada Vasal. Addressing the widespread rumors, he said, “This is not Vada Chennai 2. That sequel will star Dhanush.” However, he added an interesting twist—this new film does exist within the same timeline and setting as Vada Chennai, and it will even feature a few familiar characters from that universe.

Vetrimaaran also acknowledged the legal and creative boundaries involved. Since Dhanush is the producer of Vada Chennai, the director needed his consent to use any of the characters or elements from that film. “When I spoke to Dhanush about it, he was generous. He told me, ‘Go ahead, use whatever you need. I’ll speak to my team and send you the NOC right away. I don’t want any money,’” said Vetrimaaran.

However, the director expressed his disappointment over false claims made on certain YouTube channels alleging that Dhanush demanded payment. “Even if Dhanush had asked for compensation, there’s nothing wrong with that. But to spread misinformation when he didn’t is very hurtful,” he added.

Producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu also responded to Vetrimaaran’s video with a heartfelt message on social media:
“High hearts. High thoughts. May you live long!”
