Shankar’s Velpaari Shoot Begins June 2026 – The Epic Awaits!

December 2, 2025 Published by Natarajan Karuppiah

Director Shankar, the master craftsman of Tamil cinema, is fully immersed in the pre-production work for his next ambitious project, Velpari, at breakneck speed. Based on the famous historical novel Veera Yuga Nayakan Velpari by writer, politician, and Indian Member of Parliament Su. Venkatesan, this film will present a legendary story rooted in Tamil Sangam literature on a truly global scale, as promised by Shankar himself.

The script work for the film has been completely finalized. This epic saga, planned in three parts, is centered on the life of the legendary Pari — the benevolent king of the Mullai region who famously gifted his chariot to a climbing vine — and his fierce battles against the Chera, Chola, and Pandya kingdoms. “I used to think Enthiran (Robot) was my dream project, but now Velpari is my truly inspiring film. It will match the global standards of something like Game of Thrones or Avatar,” Shankar recently said at an event. The event took place in the presence of Superstar Rajinikanth, who wished the film grand success.

Reports suggest that shooting for Velpari will begin in June 2026, after Shankar completes Indian 3. With pre-production progressing at full throttle, talks are reportedly underway with Tamil superstars Suriya and Chiyaan Vikram for key roles, along with a major Bollywood actor. Names like Ranveer Singh and Shah Rukh Khan are said to be under consideration for lead roles, according to media reports. This could mark Shankar’s first full-fledged Tamil-Bollywood combination, creating massive excitement among fans.

The film is expected to have music by A.R. Rahman and is being planned with a staggering budget of ₹1000 crore. Production houses like Dharma Productions and Netflix are rumored to be involved. Shankar’s dream project is widely believed to elevate Tamil cinema to a whole new level on the world stage. Fans have already started heated discussions and dream-casting debates across social media!
