During an awards ceremony held in Hyderabad, veteran Telugu actor Rajendra Prasad’s remarks about the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and the revered ‘Makkal Thilagam’ M.G.R., while speaking about the legendary Telugu actor Kantha Rao, sparked a major controversy.

As this issue caused an uproar among M.G.R. fans and the people of Tamil Nadu, Rajendra Prasad has now issued a public apology.

Rajendra Prasad attended an event held to honor the veteran Telugu actor Kantha Rao. While speaking there:

He described Kantha Rao’s talent and dedication. At the same time, certain words he used while comparing him with M.G.R. were considered derogatory to M.G.R.’s reputation. Following the spread of this video on social media, M.G.R. fans and political figures expressed strong condemnation.

As the controversy intensified, actor Rajendra Prasad released a video message providing an explanation and an apology. In it, he stated:

“What I spoke has been misunderstood. I have great respect and affection for M.G.R. He is a great leader and artist. I never had any intention of belittling him.

If my speech has hurt his fans or the people of Tamil Nadu in any way, I sincerely apologize for it.”

Following Rajendra Prasad’s apology, the controversy has subsided slightly. The prevailing opinion in the film industry is that one must exercise extreme caution when speaking about fellow artists.

Both Kantha Rao and M.G.R. are like the two eyes of the South Indian film industry. It is expected that Rajendra Prasad’s clear explanation will resolve the bitterness that existed between the fans of both states.
