Malayalam OTT platform ZEE5 is all set to premiere the much-awaited political thriller ‘Patriot’ on June 5. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan, the film will stream in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Kannada languages.
One of the biggest highlights of the film is the reunion of Malayalam cinema legends Mammootty and Mohanlal after 18 years. The ensemble cast also includes Nayanthara, Fahadh Faasil, and Kunchacko Boban in pivotal roles.
Blending espionage, politics, technology, and emotional drama, ‘Patriot’ explores the dangers of unchecked surveillance systems. The story revolves around a man who once helped create a highly advanced government surveillance program believing it would protect the nation. However, when he discovers that the same system is being misused against innocent citizens through manipulation, blackmail, and control, his beliefs begin to shatter.
As he turns against the very machinery he helped build, the film raises thought-provoking questions about patriotism, betrayal, truth, and morality. Is exposing the truth an act of treason, or the highest form of patriotism? The movie attempts to explore this thin line in a gripping and emotional manner.

Set against an Indian socio-political backdrop while addressing globally relevant concerns like privacy and surveillance, ‘Patriot’ promises an intense cinematic experience packed with conspiracy, suspense, and emotional depth. Alongside the lead cast, the film also stars Revathi, Rajeev Menon, Darshana Rajendran, and Zarin Shihab in key roles.
Speaking about the film, director Mahesh Narayanan said, “Patriot reflects the anxieties of the times we live in today, where technology designed to protect people can also become a tool of fear and control. What attracted me most was the emotional conflict at its core.”
Mammootty described the film as “a deeply human story about conscience, responsibility, and courage,” while Mohanlal said the film speaks about “a world where truth and power are constantly in conflict,” adding that reuniting with Mammootty after many years made the project even more special.
