After the blockbuster success of Jailer, Superstar Rajinikanth is getting ready to return as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian in the much-awaited sequel ‘Jailer 2’. Ever since the project was announced, the film has remained one of the hottest topics in Tamil cinema.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, the sequel is currently progressing steadily and is being mounted on a much bigger scale than the first part.
While earlier reports hinted at an August 2026 release similar to the original film, the latest buzz now suggests that the makers are planning to release ‘Jailer 2’ on September 10 or 11, targeting the Ganesh Chaturthi festive season.
Though the date is yet to be officially announced, trade circles believe the festive weekend could give the film a massive advantage at the box office across India.

The sequel will reportedly continue the story of Rajinikanth’s powerful character Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, with Nelson Dilipkumar planning bigger action sequences, grand visuals, and a wider cinematic universe this time.
Reports also suggest that Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, S. J. Suryah, and Suraj Venjaramoodu are expected to join the cast in key roles. Meanwhile, Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar are also likely to reprise their memorable appearances from the first film.
The original ‘Jailer’ turned out to be a massive box office sensation, collecting over ₹600 crore worldwide and becoming one of the biggest hits in Rajinikanth’s career.
With expectations already soaring sky-high, ‘Jailer 2’ is shaping up to be one of the biggest Indian cinematic events of 2026.
