The Coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockdown has lead to a virtual shutdown of the film industry itself, and has completely changed the dynamics of the industry. Producers who were earlier fighting to lock release dates are now looking for locking OTT premiere deals.

Recently, following Bollywood and Hollywood trend, Kollywood also jumped into the OTT forum with the announcement of direct premiere of Ponmagal Vandhaal and Penguin on Amazon prime, and this had lead to mixed response, with theatres opposing this move. Now Bigil producer Archana Kalpathi has opened up on her view on OTT vs theatrical release.

Archana Kalpathi has tweeted "So many people have asked me about OTT Vs Theatrical release I will not pick sides I don’t want to.I believe we are two sides of the same coin and everyone is just trying to survive this storm. So let us be positive and stand together as an Industry ❤️".
