Vishwak Sen, known for his versatility and dedicated performances, is steadily gaining more recognition. His upcoming project, “Gangs of Godavari,” promises to be an intense gangster drama. Scheduled for release on May 31, the film is written and directed by Krishna Chaitanya. Alongside Vishwak Sen, actresses Anjali and Neha Sshetty will portray the female leads, adding to the anticipation. The involvement of music composer Yuvan Shankar Raj adds to the movie’s appeal.
One of the leading ladies, Neha Sshetty, shared insights about her role and the film during a recent media interaction.
Tell us about your role in the film.
Bujji is a village girl from a rich family in the 90s. It is a character that looks good and is strong. As seen in the trailer, Bujji's character is different compared to other characters. In the trailer you look beautiful and gentle. But this is the role of a very powerful woman. There are some surprising things about this character in the movie. Bujji is one of the strongest characters in the film. You can see how many emotions a girl has in this.
What is the film about?
The script of this movie is different. It revolves around a family trip in the 90s, focusing on the characters of Ratna, Ratnamala, and Bujji. It is a life story. Don’t think there is only action after seeing the promotional pictures. There is also romance, comedy, and drama. The film will appeal to all sections of the audience.
How did you prepare for your role as it is a period film?
The director showed me Shobhana as a reference. We paid a lot of attention to everything like saree, hair, and eyes. Apart from changing my style, I learned how the actresses of that time acted and adjusted accordingly. Most of my previous roles have been modern, but Bujji's character is different. I didn't do any homework on the accent because Bujji is a rich girl's character and doesn’t have a strong accent. This role relies more on expressing feelings with eyes than with words. I believe this role will bring me significant recognition.
What was it like working with Vishwak Sen?
Acting with Vishwak Sen was a pleasure. He worked hard for this film, even shooting in the hot sun. We became good friends, which made shooting scenes together enjoyable.
Can you tell us about working with Anjali?
Though we didn’t have many scenes together, Anjali is very fun in real life. She is always smiling and interacting with everyone. She can switch to her character quickly when it’s time to shoot. As an experienced actress, there is a lot to learn from her.
What was the most challenging aspect of the shoot?
The film was shot over a year, from one summer to the next. The extreme heat posed some challenges. Many crew members suffered from sunburn during the shooting in Rajahmundry.
How do you feel about being recognized as Radhika from DJ Tillu?
Being called by the name of the character we play is a great compliment to any actor. It's an honor to be remembered as Radhika so early in my career. It was like, I am not exaggerating but how Shah Rukh Khan is called Badshah. The character has earned a special place in the hearts of the audience.
Do you have any sweet memories from the shoot?
There are many sweet memories. We enjoyed shooting around Godavari, and the people of Rajahmundry treated us very well. The food was also excellent.
How was your experience working with Sitara Entertainments?
Sitara Entertainments feels like home. I am happy to have done a film with them and hope to do more in the future.
Can you share your thoughts on Krishna Chaitanya, the director?
Krishna Chaitanya is a very good man and speaks very softly. His writing and the way he has screened this story is amazing.
How important is your role in this film?
Every role in the film is important. Vishwak’s character is 50 percent, Anjali’s 25 percent, and mine is 25 percent (laughs).
What is your favorite meme?
I don’t usually see memes or articles related to me. I avoid reading media stuff about myself unless someone sends it to me. It helps me stay away from negative comments that might affect me mentally.
Can you tell us about your future projects?
After “Gangs of Godavari,” I am looking forward to working on a film with Bellamkonda Srinivas, which will start soon.
