Director Shakti Soundarajan has delivered a winner in the form of 'Tik Tik Tik' starring Jayam Ravi, Nivetha Pethuraj and Aarav Ravi which has the distinction of being the first Indian space film. Handicapped by a peanuts budget compared to Hollywood flicks of the same genre the storytelling as well as the computer graphics are to a great extent impressive is what the viewers leaving the cinema halls opine.
Shakti Soundarajan an erstwhile assistant of Venkat Prabhu has tried his hands at four different genres in his body of work. His debut film 'Naanayam' was one of the first hiest thrillers that had a very urban look that captured the attention of movie goers. He followed it up with 'Naaigal Jaakirathai' that became a sleeper hit thanks to the towering presence of the German Shephard Idoh and the sincere performance of Sibiraj. The writer director employed the reverse chronological screenplay technique that made the impact rightaway.
'Miruthan' released in 2016 starring Jayam Ravi came with the tag of India's first zombie movie and it did have the shock value of witnessing the first glimpse of the undead in Tamil cinema. Shakti did away with the conventional hero character arc and gave a riveting loose end.
The main criticism on Shakti Soundarajan is that he borrows heavily from Hollywood his themes, genres and making style.
Now that he has established himself as a noticeable fillmmaker one hopes that his next attempts would emphasize originality along with ushering a new genre to Tamil cinema.
