EC rejects Dinakaran’s request to permanently freeze ‘Two-Leaves’ symbol

The Election Commission of India (EC) had summarily rejected jailbird Dinakaran’s request to permanently freeze the erstwhile AIADMK’s poll symbol of ‘Two-Leaves’.

The EC froze the ‘Two-Leaves’ symbol, name and flag of the AIADMK and banned the then factions of the AIADMK led by OPS and EPS from using it during the R.K. Nagar by-polls in Chennai. To be held on 12th April, the by-poll was cancelled at the very last moment after complaints of large-scale indulgence of cash-for-votes by the parties in general and by jailbird Dinakaran and his supporters in particular.

The factions led by EPS and OPS have since come together as a single entity with jailbird Dinakaran and his jailbird aunt Sasikala getting isolated. Jailbird Dinakaran, who is hell-bent on creating trouble for the present regime, joined the issue with the EC, stating that his faction was the ‘actual’ AIADMK which should be allotted the party’s name, symbol and flag.

During yesterday’s interrogation of the case by EC, jailbird Dinakaran’s counsel Ashwinikumar argued stating that OPS-EPS side had furnished forged documents and that they should not get the party’s symbol of ‘Two-Leaves’ which should be frozen permanently. EC, however, rejected this proposal and went on to hear arguments by advocate Vaidyanathan representing the unified AIADMK led by EPS-OPS.
