Corona warrior ambulance driver’s wife pledges mangalsutra for his last rites!

As the nation is battling against the deadly Coronavirus, the most affected section of people are the frontline warriors – doctors, nurses, medical officers, police, ambulance drivers etc as they’re risking their lives to save others. Now, in an unfortunate incident, an ambulance driver’s wife in Gadag district had to pledge her mangalsutra for performing the last rites of her husband.

As per reports, the issue has now been taken to the attention of  Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa who is said to have made a Telefonica conversation with the driver’s wife and has assured her help. The incident took place in Konnur village near Naragund on May 27 as Ambulance driver Umesh Hadagali, driving 108 Ambulance died of heart attack when he was on duty.

As said by his family, he had been working day and night without taking leave and wasn’t even paid paid salary for around three months. Following his unexpected death, his wife Jyoti tried to arrange money but due to the ongoing lockdown financial crisis, people weren’t able to help her. After she got to know of his illness, Jyoti rushed him to Ramadurga hospital, but the hospital authorities told to take him to Dharwad and he died on the way. As Jyoti had no money, she pledged her mangalsutra for performing Umesh’s last rites.
