Cinema has always adapted to natural changes over time. Initially, many actors transitioned from theatre to films and became indispensable figures. Today, they are recognized as pioneers. Later, television actors fought for their space in the film industry, with actors like Sivakarthikeyan and Santhanam being prime examples.

Similarly, the trend of assisting a director before directing a film has changed. Many have gained recognition by directing short films and entering the industry, including Lokesh Kanagaraj, Karthik Subbaraj, and ‘Chitha’ Arun Kumar. Now, influencers from YouTube and Instagram are making their way into the film industry.

Prasanna Balachandran from ‘Nakkalites’ has acted in films like Sethumaan and Mandela. YouTuber Rajeshwar Kaliasami has directed ‘Kudumbasthan,’ while Abishek Raja is set to direct ‘Jam Jam.’

YouTuber Hari Bhaskar has become a lead actor through ‘Mr. House Keeping,’ and TDF Vasan is starring in ‘Manjal Veeran.’ Influencer Ramya Ranganathan, known for her dance videos, acted in Dhanush’s ‘Nilavukku En Mel Enadi Kobam.’ Monisha Blessy, with over a million Instagram followers, played Sivakarthikeyan’s sister in ‘Maaveeran’ and is now acting in Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ and Vijay’s ‘Janaganamana.’

Hollywood has already embraced influencer actors, with personalities like Addison Rae and King Bach acting in films. Filmmakers believe their popularity draws audiences to theaters. Industry experts say influencers’ entry is making cinema more democratic. However, while fame provides opportunities, proper training is essential for success in the film industry.
