A building has crumbled on Tuesday morning in Mumbai’s Dongri locality. The century-old building had been in a dilapidated condition. Incessant rains and flooding of the area in recent weeks seem to have been the final nail in the coffin.
Soon after the collapse at 11:40am, three teams of the NDRF reached the spot to carry out rescue operations. Despite their best efforts for hours, many are feared to be trapped in the rubble. Ambulances and other services were chipped in at a fast pace.
Speaking on the tragedy, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “As per the initial information I have received, around 15 families are feared trapped in the collapse. The building is around 100 yrs old. The entire focus is on rescuing the people trapped. An investigation will be done.”
Monsoons always bring such tragedies in their wake in Mumbai.
