Megastar Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan and Koratala Siva have not made a single rupee on ‘Acharya’ so far. Yet, producers Niranjan Reddy and Charan have had to bear an interest burden amounting to Rs 50 Cr on the loans borrowed to invest in production.
The sum was revealed by Chiru himself on Tuesday. When a scribe asked him why a Chiranjeevi movie requires ticket prices to be hiked in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the Megastar was visibly upset by the tone of the question. He suggested that they are doing so because they are left with no option.
The ‘Sye Raa’ actor said that paying Rs 50 Cr interest is unheard of in the Telugu film industry. “Who is going to give us the money? It’s good if governments lend us a helping hand by permitting ticket price hikes. The film industry has been badly damaged by the Covid-19 pandemic,” Chiru said.
Koratala Siva indicated that accounts are yet to be settled. He has been focused on ‘Acharya’ since 2018 without making a single rupee.
One wonders how much interest the makers of ‘RRR’ and ‘KGF 2’ must have paid by this yardstick.
