In a significant development for the Telugu film industry, the Supreme Court of India on Friday stayed the interim order issued by the Telangana High Court regarding movie ticket price hikes in the state.
Earlier, the High Court had observed that the Telangana government could issue a Government Order (G.O.) permitting a ticket price hike only if it was issued at least 90 days before the film’s release. The condition created concern within the film industry, as producers and distributors felt the rule was impractical for film releases that often finalize schedules closer to release dates.
Following this, leading production house Mythri Movie Makers approached the Supreme Court challenging the High Court’s interim order.

After hearing the matter, the Supreme Court stayed the High Court’s directive, providing major relief to filmmakers and exhibitors who rely on flexible pricing for big releases.
With the order now stayed, the process for ticket price hikes in Telangana can continue without the earlier restriction, bringing relief to the industry ahead of several big-ticket releases.
One of the films expected to benefit from this development is “Ustaad Bhagat Singh,” starring Power Star Pawan Kalyan and directed by Harish Shankar. The much-anticipated mass entertainer is gearing up for a grand theatrical release and is already carrying huge expectations among fans and trade circles.
