Ace filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli has shared an exciting production update on his much-awaited globe-trotting action adventure Varanasi, starring Superstar Mahesh Babu in the lead role.
Rajamouli recently attended the Annecy Animation Festival, where he participated in a work-in-progress panel for Baahubali: The Eternal War. Following the event, the filmmaker spoke to Variety and offered fresh insights into the progress of Varanasi, one of the most anticipated Indian films in production.
According to Rajamouli, the team has already completed a major portion of the shoot, including all the film’s large-scale action episodes.
“We have completed a major portion of the shoot. All the important, big spectacle action sequences are done. We are now filming the smaller interconnecting scenes. Hopefully, by September or a little into October, we should finish shooting,” Rajamouli revealed.
The update indicates that production is progressing smoothly, with the remaining portions primarily consisting of character-driven scenes that connect the film’s grand action set pieces.

Varanasi stars Mahesh Babu in the lead, alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in pivotal roles. The ambitious project is being produced by K.L. Narayana under the Durga Arts banner, while Oscar-winning composer M.M. Keeravani is scoring the music.
Mounted on a massive scale, Varanasi is widely regarded as Rajamouli’s most ambitious film to date. With filming expected to conclude by September or early October, the focus will soon shift to the extensive post-production work required for the visual spectacle.
The film is officially scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on April 7, 2027, and expectations remain sky-high among movie lovers across the globe.
