The rise of betting apps has become a serious concern, leading to financial ruin and even suicides among the youth. These apps lure victims through large-scale advertisements, often featuring celebrities and influencers. As a result, law enforcement has intensified its crackdown on both the operators of these apps and those promoting them.
Authorities have taken strict action by filing cases against 11 actors and social media influencers, including Vishnupriya, Supreeta, Imran Khan (Pareshan Boys), Harsha Sai, Ritu Chaudhary, Shyamala and Tasty Teja, at the Panjagutta police station.
The police are actively arresting scammers involved in these fraudulent schemes, which have resulted in the loss of hundreds of crores of rupees. The Cyberabad police had previously warned celebrities about endorsing these fraudulent platforms.
Under the Consumer Protection Act Amendment, 1986, celebrities endorsing fraudulent products and services can face bans ranging from one to three years and fines of up to ?10 lakh. Repeat offenders could even face imprisonment.
