Nalan Kumarasamy Reveals Plans for Next Films: ‘Samundeeswari’ with Female Lead & ‘Kaineelam’ with Vijay Sethupathi!

Following the Pongal release of ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’ starring Karthi, which received mixed reviews but is enjoying solid collections due to the holiday season, director Nalan Kumarasamy has opened up about his upcoming projects in a recent interview.

In the conversation, Nalan shared exciting details about his future lineup:

“My next film will be ‘Samundeeswari’, a project centered around a strong female lead. The budget for this film is expected to be around ₹20 crore. Once that is completed, I plan to reunite with Vijay Sethupathi.

A few years ago, we had started a film with Vijay Sethupathi, but we couldn’t crack a satisfactory climax scene despite multiple brainstorming sessions involving around 15 people. Now, I’ve finally finalized the climax for that project. The title of the film is ‘Kaineelam’ (கைநீளம்).”

Nalan Kumarasamy previously impressed audiences with his unique style in films like ‘Soodhu Kavvum’ and ‘Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum’. With ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’, he ventured into a more mass-oriented entertainer for the first time. Now, it appears he’s returning to his signature storytelling approach—blending quirkiness, emotion, and character depth.

‘Samundeeswari’ being a female-centric story has already sparked curiosity about who the lead actress might be—possibly a fresh face or an established star. ‘Kaineelam’, on the other hand, will mark his third collaboration with Vijay Sethupathi after their earlier two successful outings.
