Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan's magnum opus "Indian 2" finally hit cinemas on July 12th after years of production delays and struggles. However, the film fell short of the high standards set by its predecessor and failed to make a significant impact at the box office. Shortly after its theatrical release, "Indian 2" premiered on Netflix, sparking legal trouble for the filmmakers.
Recent reports indicate that the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) has filed a case against the "Indian 2" team for violating the industry-standard eight-week rule for OTT releases. It appears that the Hindi version of the film premiered on the streaming platform just six weeks after its theatrical debut, which has caused a stir within the film industry. The filmmakers have yet to respond to the legal notice from MAI.
Directed by Shankar, "Indian 2" features an ensemble cast including Kamal Haasan, Siddharth, SJ Suryah, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simha, and the late Nedumudi Venu. The film's music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with editing by Sreekar Prasad and cinematography by Rathnavelu and Ravi Varman. The sequel, "Indian 3," is reportedly scheduled for a Summer 2025 release.
