Radio jockey turned actor RJ Balaji is basking in the success of his latest release LKG directed by debutant KR Prabu, and the political comedy movie has been performing well at the box office. Produced by Isari Ganesh’s Vels Films International, the film hit screens on February 22.
Recently, RJ Balaji had posted a video on his Twitter handle to promote LKG, where Priya Anand’s character advises RJ Balaji’s character to keep his devotion on Gods inside his house, and once out of the house he must be devoted to leaders like Periyar, Gandhi, Kamaraj and Ambedkar. This reference to rationalists has now created a controversy.
Director Naveen of Moodar Koodam fame had quoted this video and tweeted congratulating RJ Balaji for the success of LKG, while also adding that Tamil rationalism isn’t about being different inside and outside one’s home, and it is all about preventing superstitious beliefs and irrational things from entering this land filled with theists. He also said that 95% of Periyar’s followers aren’t atheists.
