Suriya adds his star power to the roster of celebrity owners in the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL), a pioneering tennis ball T10 cricket tournament in India. The accomplished Tamil actor is unveiled as the proud owner of the Chennai team, standing alongside notable figures like Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, and Ram Charan, owners of the Mumbai, Srinagar, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad teams respectively.
Expressing his excitement, Suriya shares on social media, “Vanakkam Chennai! I am beyond electrified to announce the ownership of our Team Chennai in ISPLT10. To all the cricket enthusiasts, let’s create a legacy of sportsmanship, resilience, and cricketing excellence together.”
The ISPLT10 tennis ball cricket tournament is slated to take place from March 2 to March 9 next year in Mumbai, featuring six teams: Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, and Srinagar.
Suriya, a versatile figure in the entertainment industry as an actor, producer, and now the owner of ISPL’s Chennai team, expresses his honor, saying, “It’s an honor to be a part of ISPL, a platform dedicated to showcasing cricketing talent across India. Chennai holds a special place in cricket history with the MA Chidambaram Stadium being the oldest venue in India in continuous use. The Chennai ISPL team will give local talent a unique opportunity to showcase their cricketing skills in this exciting new format.”
In an innovative approach, ISPL introduces an inclusive policy, eliminating age restrictions, except for the mandatory inclusion of at least one U-19 player in the playing XI, aiming to unearth latent talent and provide a platform for emerging cricketers.
On the acting front, Suriya is set to grace the silver screen in “Kanguva,” directed by Siva and co-starring Bollywood actor Disha Patani. The multifaceted talent of Suriya extends beyond the cinema as he now takes a significant stride into the world of cricket ownership with ISPL.
