Dadasaheb Phalke’s Legacy Sparks Dual Biopics by Top Directors

Widely regarded as the father of Indian cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke directed India’s first full-length feature film, ‘Raja Harishchandra’, in 1913. In 2023, director S.S. Rajamouli announced a film titled ‘Made in India’, which will be based on Phalke’s life. The script is currently being developed by Varun Gupta and S.S. Karthikeya for the past few years. It is rumored that actor Jr. NTR will play the lead role of Dadasaheb Phalke in this project.

Meanwhile, another biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke has been announced, this time directed by Rajkumar Hirani, with Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan in the lead role. Set against the backdrop of India’s freedom struggle, the film is scheduled to begin production in October.

The fact that two major films on Dadasaheb Phalke’s life are being made at the same time has sparked discussions and debates on social media. Viewers are curious to see how each director presents the pioneering filmmaker’s legacy.
