“On this day in 2011, the shot that sent millions of Indians into jubilation,” said ESPN Crick Info’s Twitter handle, prompting former cricketer and BJP MP Gautam Gambhir to display his irritation on Thursday. The reference to MS Dhoni’s winning shot in the final match of World Cup 2011 (India Vs Sri Lanka) didn’t go down well with Gambhir.
“The World Cup-2011 was won by entire India, entire Indian team & all support staff. High time you hit your obsession for a SIX,” the BJP MP tweeted out.
The comment has been welcomed by many. However, not everyone is in agreement with Gambhir. “True. But they never said this shot won us the world cup. They are only saying this shot took Indians into jubilation. Relax kijiye cricket ke Advaniji,” one Sagar replied.
After Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar got out early on, it fell upon Gambhir to score big-time. And he rose up to the occasion by hitting a winsome 97.
