A pic in which a piece of paper is seen being used as a support to hold a mobile phone while being charged is doing the rounds on the Internet. Many are celebrating this as an example of Indian ‘jugaad’, a short-cut that costs little to nothing.
If you are planning to charge your mobile like this, be told that it’s not safe. “Putting paper this close to a plug point is actually dangerous. Please for the love of God this romanticization of “jugaad” is going to take us all down one day. Will anyone be tweeting out a picture of a man puffing the exhaust tube of a running car with the caption “Indian cigarettes, the great Jugaad” and we Indians will pat ourselves on the back like WAO- India is best,” says @awryaditi, slamming the idea of charging a mobile dangerously.
“One spark at the plug (which happens so often), the paper or fabric will catch fire. The mobile handset will fall (and break) and you spend 1000s of rupees on repair. Instead, put a small fabric/non-fabric purse/bag below through a nail and enjoy,” writes another Twitter user.
