The Indian cricket team had lost the third T20 match against New Zealand by 4 runs, ultimately losing the 3 match series 2-1, despite heroics from Krunal Pandya, Dinesh Karthik and Vijay Shankar. Rohit Sharma had expressed his displeasure over a losing end to the New Zealand series, though the team had a victorious outing in Test and ODI series.

Though India lost the match, and MS Dhoni, who was expected to finish the match in India's favour got out for just 2 runs, his gesture during the match has made him trending across social media. When India was bowling, a fan had entered into the field, and came running towards MS Dhoni, and fell at his feet with a national flag on his hand.

Out of extreme excitement, the fan had let the flag brush the ground, and in a fraction of seconds, Dhoni swiftly got hold of the flag before it could fall on the ground completely, and this act of Dhoni has turned viral, with people appreciating Dhoni's presence of mind and patriotism.
