For over two decades, Devi Sri Prasad (DSP), the iconic music composer behind countless blockbuster hits in Tamil and Telugu cinema, has been a household name. Now, the Rockstar is stepping into a bold new chapter—making his full-fledged debut as a lead actor in the upcoming film Yellamma.
The official announcement came on the auspicious occasion of Makara Sankranthi (January 15, 2026), when the makers unveiled the film’s powerful first glimpse (concept teaser). Produced by Shirish under the prestigious Sri Venkateswara Creations banner and presented by renowned producer Dil Raju, the film is directed by Venu Yeldandi, the National Award-winning filmmaker behind the critically acclaimed rural hit Balagam.
In Yellamma, DSP plays the lead role of Parshi, a traditional folk percussionist deeply rooted in rural mysticism and spiritual traditions. The glimpse showcases him in a striking, transformative look—long hair, thick beard, shirtless, intense, and grounded—seated in meditation by a river as a storm brews, with symbolic elements like neem leaves, turmeric, kumkum, drums, and divine energy evoking the folklore surrounding Goddess Yellamma. DSP’s own background score adds an electrifying, soul-stirring layer to the visuals, blending cultural authenticity with cinematic intensity.
The film is described as a pan-India musical social drama exploring themes of faith, indigenous traditions, spirituality, and human-nature conflicts, set against a rich rural and folk backdrop. It is slated for release in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
DSP shared an emotional post on his social media about this new journey:
“My musical journey began with the blessings of Devi. It earned a place in everyone’s hearts and made me part of your families. I’m forever grateful for the love you’ve showered like rain. Now, with the blessings of Yellamma Devi, a new journey begins. A divine opportunity to be even closer to your hearts. I hope you’ll continue to give me even more love and blessings. I look forward to you being with me every step of the way. This is going to be incredibly exciting!”
Earlier, actors like Nani and Nithiin were reportedly attached to the project but stepped away for various reasons, paving the way for DSP to take center stage. He will also compose the music for the film, making it a complete creative showcase of his talent.
Fans across industries are buzzing with excitement over DSP’s intense new avatar and the film’s rooted, powerful narrative. With Dil Raju’s backing, Venu Yeldandi’s sensitive direction, and DSP’s dual role as hero and music director, Yellamma is already generating massive anticipation.
Shooting is expected to commence soon, with more details—including the female lead and full cast—to be revealed in the coming months.
