Popular artist Chinmayi, who recently won the 2019 Filmfare award for the Best Female Playback Singer, has mentioned on social media that comments from men like Y. G. Mahendra must be ignored, as it’s a waste of time talking about them.
Film and theatre artist Y. Gee. Mahendra recently made distasteful comments at an event regarding the ongoing protests being held across the country against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He had mentioned that men only participated in the protests to leer at women and not for the intended cause. “As far as I am concerned, students are going because they are getting a leave on that day and can create ruckus. When they are being taken in a van, they can endear themselves to women standing in crowd and look at them. Nothing more to it. The duty of students is not indulging in all this,” he had mentioned in his statement.
When a Twitter user had tagged Chinmayi in a post that contained Y. Gee. Mahendra’s comment, she responded, “I think we should all generally ignore comments from these men. They cant be changed. And its a waste of time.”
