Ben Stokes has been bought by Chennai Super Kings at a whooping amount of 16.25 cr at the IPL Auction 2023. He became the third most expensive buy in the tournament after Sam Curran (18.50 cr) & Cameron Green ( 17.25 cr).
CSK went into the IPL 2023 auction with a purse of Rs 20.45 crore. The Chennai franchise led by former India captain MS Dhoni had total of seven slots available with two overseas slots. After buying Stokes and Rahane, they now have spent Rs 16.75 crore with Rs 3.7 crore remaining in their purse.
Stokes was earlier released by last year’s runners-up Rajasthan Royals. He had skipped last year’s IPL. Stokes has a mixed bag of a record in the league and CSK would hope he turns up for the franchise as they look to equal Mumbai’s record of 5 titles.
CSK retained MS Dhoni, Devon Conway (NZ), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu, Subhranshu Senapati, Moeen Ali (ENG), Shivam Dube, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwaine Pretorius (SA), Mitchell Santner (NZ), Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, Mukesh Choudhary, Matheesha Pathirana (SL), Simarjeet Singh, Prashant Solanki, Maheesh Theekshana (SL).
