The director of the X-Men series and Oscar-nominated Bohemian Rhapsody has been accused of sexually assaulting minor boys in a report published by The Atlantic.
In the report, four men (then boys) allege Singer of sexually harassing them when they were teenagers in the late 1990s. One of the men, Victor Valdovinos, says he was a 13-year-old extra on the set of “Apt Pupil” when Singer molested him. The other three accusers are referred to in the report by pseudonyms. Another one of the victims, named in the piece as Ben, said he was 17 at the time. “He would stick his hands down your pants without your consent,” he said. “He was predatory in that he would ply people with alcohol and drugs and then have sex with them. The third accuser, Eric, claimed that a number of men were victimized by Singer, stating, “There’s a bunch of us. It’s like, ‘You were one of Singer’s boys? Me too.”
Andrew Brettler, Singer’s attorney, denied that Singer had ever had sex with underage boys, and disputed all the details of the accusers’ accounts. He also added that the report was “homophobic.”
The 53-year-old director is famous for his work in the films, The Usual Suspects, Superman Returns, and the X-Men series. His 2018 biographical film Bohemian Rhapsody has been nominated for ‘Best Picture’ at the 2019 Academy Awards.
