‘Aruvi’ Anjali opens up about her critically acclaimed first film

‘Aruvi’ has taken Kollywood by storm with its content being appreciated by one and all. In addition to the director Arun Prabhu Purushothaman and actress Aditi Balan, one other character was much loved by the audience throughout the film : Anjali who essayed the role of transwoman Emily.

Anjali states that she had attended the auditions with her friend and following a month the team communicated to her that she was selected for the part. Anjali who was flooded with mixed feelings of happiness and fear became comfortable when she was consistently trained for her part throughout the process.

“As a transwoman there was no discrimination to me on the sets from anyone. When I wasn’t able to act right in certain scenes, the director would encourage me to try several times,” she stated. Anjali also told that when almost all films treat transgenders only for comical and negligible roles in movies, her role in ‘Aruvi’ is pivotal and comes throughout the film.

‘Aruvi’ is Anjali’s first film which has been receiving rave reviews from critics and an overwhelming positive reception from the general audience.
