For the past few days there has been a huge outrage on social media and among people of Tamil Nadu over the mandating of Hindi as the third language in Tamil Nadu, as well as in other non Hindi speaking states of the country, and a draft had been submitted regarding the same.
Though the Ministry of Human resources department had let out a notification that it was only a draft and that it will not be implemented without taking the feedback of people and that the ministry/ government is not inclined towards mandating Hindi or opposing any language, there had been public anger.
Today, Oscar winning music director AR Rahman tweeted in Tamil “அழகிய தீர்வு ”தமிழகத்தில் இந்தி கட்டாயமல்ல… திருத்தப்பட்டது வரைவு!” meaning that the draft has been amended and that Hindi is not mandatory in Tamilnadu. A day back, AR Rahman had shared a video of a Punjabi singer singing his Innum Konja neram from Mariyaan, and had clearly registered his voice against Hindi imposition and the power of Tamil.
