Oscar-winning music composer A.R. Rahman, known for his calm demeanor, surprised many with a rare moment of displeasure during a recent interview with television host Divyadarshini (DD). The exchange has quickly gone viral online.
As part of the promotional campaign for the upcoming film Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam and starring Kamal Haasan, A.R. Rahman has been giving interviews alongside the film’s team. During one such interview with Vijay TV anchor DD, things took an unexpected turn.
Addressing Rahman playfully, DD called him “Big Boy” (Periya Bhai). To this, Rahman immediately responded with confusion, asking, “Big Boy? What’s that?” When DD explained it was just a nickname, Rahman responded firmly:
“I don’t like that name. No. What is this ‘Big Boy’… Do I look like I run a butcher shop?”
His unexpected reaction visibly startled the anchor, who quickly replied, “Okay, I won’t call you that anymore.” The clip of this exchange has since gone viral, with fans commenting on Rahman’s rare display of irritation.
While the moment caught many off guard, it has sparked discussions online about the importance of respecting personal boundaries—even in casual celebrity interviews.
