The Centre has delivered a good news to those who have been against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of Pune's Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in 2015. Yes, Gajendra has been shown the door. And actor Anupam Kher will now take up the position.
An actor of high standing (he has acted in more than 500 movies), Kher had held the position of the chairman of Central Board of Film Certification in the 2000s with remarkable maturity.
However, Anupam's appointment will attract criticism from many quarters. He is a pro-BJP artist. So, just as Gajendra's appointment was mired in controversy, the new appointment, too, will be seen as spoils system at work. More so because Kher was given the prestigious Padma Bhushan in 2016.
Versatile talents like Naseeruddin Shah, Jaya Baduri Bachchan, and Om Puri are alumni of the FTII.
