2019 Miss Kerala winner Ansi Kabeer (25) and runner-up Anjana Shajan (26) died in a car accident on Monday. The incident occurred at around 1 am in front of Holiday Inn on the Ernakulam Bypass. The duo were killed when the car in which they were travelling hit a bike and lost control. While Ansi and Anjana died on the spot, the other two male passengers were seriously injured and were hospitalised. It is reported that the bikers too were injured and are under treatment.

Ansi is a native of Attingal in Thiruvananthapuram and Anjana is from Thrissur. Both Ansi and Anjana were winners of the pageant held in 2019. Ansi started modelling right from her college days and is also an engineering graduate. Anjana is an Ayurvedic doctor by profession. She had no previous experience in modelling but still won the Miss Kerala first runner-up title.

The mother of Ansi Kabeer attempted suicide on Monday soon after receiving the news by consuming poison and has been admitted to a private hospital by the police. Popular Malayalam and pan Indian star Dulquer Salmaan has mourned the demise of the young girls.

Duquer wrote on social media "I had the great privilege of working with both these young and vibrant girls. Anjana did a small role in Salute. And Ansi did a TV commercial with me. I pray for their families and friends to get through these trying times.
